With an audible latency of approximately 300 milliseconds, it supports streaming text input and robust speech generation for segments up to 10 minutes. It currently supports multiple languages, including English, German, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and more.

The innovation behind VibeVoice lies in its use of continuous speech tokenizers (Acoustic and Semantic) operating at an ultra-low frame rate of 7.5 Hz.
This approach preserves audio fidelity while significantly boosting computational efficiency for long sequences. The system employs a next-token diffusion framework, leveraging a Large Language Model (LLM) to understand textual context and dialogue flow, while a diffusion head generates high-fidelity acoustic details.

While VibeVoice-TTS initially showcased impressive capabilities—synthesizing up to 90 minutes of speech with 4 distinct speakers—Microsoft has removed the TTS code from the public repository.
This decision aligns with Microsoft’s guiding principles for responsible AI, following instances where the tool was used inconsistently with its intended research purpose. The company warns that high-quality synthetic speech carries risks of being misused for deepfakes or disinformation.
