Kagi is contemplating the removal of the assistant from its professional tier

Kagi is planning to transition its AI Assistant into a standalone subscription service, moving away from its inclusion in standard search tiers. This strategic shift aims to simplify pricing while offering search subscribers a one-time trial of premium AI capabilities.
Kagi is considering a significant shift in its subscription structure by decoupling Kagi Assistant from its standard search plans. Instead of ongoing access, Starter and Professional search subscribers would receive a "fixed usage cap"—a one-time allowance that does not reset monthly. This essentially treats the Assistant access as a trial for search users.
Kagi clarified that this change specifically targets the standalone Kagi Assistant and does not affect LLM-powered features integrated into the search engine itself, such as "Quick Answer." The goal is to simplify the pricing model into three clear paths: a Search subscription, an Assistant subscription, or the "Ultimate" bundle for the full ecosystem.
Previously, the Assistant features included in search plans were limited, lacking access to top-tier models or the "Research" assistant. The new approach will allow search subscribers to test the full capabilities of the Assistant using their one-time allowance, providing a clearer upgrade path to the Ultimate tier for those who find the tool valuable. While pricing changes are often difficult, Kagi aims to minimize confusion for existing users while creating a more logical structure for heavy users.
