CBP Facility Codes Sure Seem to Have Leaked Via Online Flashcards

A public flashcard set on Quizlet appears to have exposed highly confidential security codes and procedures for US Customs and Border Protection facilities, highlighting potential data leaks as agencies ramp up hiring.
A user on Quizlet, an online learning platform, created a public flashcard set in February that appears to have exposed highly confidential information about security procedures in US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facilities around Kingsville, Texas. The set, titled “USBP Review,” included specific four-digit codes for checkpoint doors and gates, as well as details on internal organizational systems and immigration enforcement protocols.
A CBP spokesperson confirmed that the incident is being reviewed by the Office of Professional Responsibility, though they cautioned that a review is not an indication of wrongdoing. The flashcards remained public until March 20, shortly after inquiries were made. If created by an agency affiliate, the leak represents a significant security breach for an organization tasked with national safety.
The leak also detailed the “E3 BEST” system, used by officers to query law enforcement databases during arrests. This exposure comes amid a massive hiring surge at CBP and ICE, where new recruits are offered substantial financial incentives. Further investigation revealed other Quizlet sets potentially created by DHS recruits, covering topics from detention standards to internal “insider threat” training answers, suggesting a broader trend of sensitive information being inadvertently shared on public educational platforms.
